Last Thursday, more than 50 Bay area PR professionals gathered near downtown Tampa for “The Write Stuff: Perspectives on Five Areas of PR Writing” program. Five experts in different areas of PR writing shared valuable insights and discussed important aspects of each writing style, including potential challenges and possible solutions.

The first presenter, Kyle Parks of B2 Communications, discussed the ins and outs of agency writing, sharing the value of agency-to-client relationships. Joseph Priest of Syniverse covered the intricacies of corporate writing, giving advice on self-proof reading and dealing with long chain-of-command reviews. Nancy Robbins-Lackey of Lackey Consulting, shared advice on writing effective grants and relationship building for nonprofit organizations and funders. Jeff Harrington of the Tampa Bay Times gave tips on effective news writing, collaborating and communicating with reporters. Finally, Kat Lewis of Visit Tampa Bay shared her experiences in managing the destination marketing organization’s many social channels providing innovative techniques for social media writing.

Each expert rotated every 15 minutes among five tables of note-taking PR professionals. The format resulted in interactive meetings complete with helpful handouts and mini Q&A sessions.

The sold out event was the first of the chapter’s monthly continuing education programs for 2014.
